Identify an area of interest for
in-depth study.
Develop a guiding question and
project proposal.
Work with Focus faculty weekly
and as requested to develop research, interviewing, listening, writing,
technology and presentation skills related to independent study.
Write to and interview prospective
mentors.
Meet a minimum of four hours
per month with a community mentor.
Take full responsibility for scheduling
and communication with mentor in the case of cancellations.
Think deeply and ask questions
on a daily basis.
Practice oral communication skills
throughout the year.
Document Focus progress in a weekly
log.
Create an annotated bibliography.
Speak publicly and present work
in an evening exhibition to a mixed audience of parents, students,
faculty, and community members.
Prepare a project portfolio and
present project results to an Assessment Panel including mentor, NBHS
faculty member, Focus student, community member, and Focus Staff.
