The NBHS library media center is fully automated and provides access to its online catalog on 12 networked computer terminals. The library contains 8,000 books, 30 magazines, 3 daily or weekly newspapers, a video collection, and CD-ROM databases. Full Internet access is available from all computers to databases and other online resources. We belong to the Central Massachusetts Regional Library system and assist our patrons in identifying and requesting materials to borrow through Interlibrary Loan.Hours
The library is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30-2:30 and from 7:30-2:15 on Fridays while school is in session.Program
The library serves as the research and independent study center of the school. When scheduling a research project in the media center, the teacher and librarian discuss the project's requirements in order to reserve appropriate library materials for student use.
Each fall the school and public libraries provide a joint orientation to all seventh graders. The purpose of this cooperative venture is to make the Junior High students aware of the many resources available to them in the public library and give them an opportunity to apply for an adult library card.
The Accelerated Reader program is used extensively by the Junior High reading teachers as well as the English department for reading enrichment.
Two independent study programs, Virtual High School and the Junior/Senior Focus program meet daily in the library and make use of its resources/equipment. The media specialist is the director of the Senior Focus programPolicies
Student are permitted to borrow books for a two-week period and may renew them twice unless a book is reserved by another patron or needed for a class assignment. Some reference materials may be borrowed overnight. In case of a damaged or lost book., students must pay for its replacement cost. Computer use in the media center is limited to educational programs only. Food, beverages, and gum are not permitted in the media center. The copy machine in the LMC is free of charge for students.Staff
